After filling in an ACC and consent form you’ll be introduced to your Physiotherapist. Don’t feel intimidated but we want to get to know you. We will ask you a lot of questions about you and your injury in order to get the big picture of what is going on. From there we will watch you move, test your strength and perform appropriate diagnostic tests to confirm our diagnosis. We will talk you through every step of the process and we hope you will leave feeling better and with a greater understanding of your injury along with a tailored rehabilitation plan to get you back on track.
We want you to feel comfortable during your time at Edge Physio. To best diagnose your injury or problem it makes it easier for us as Physiotherapists to able to see the area causing you discomfort. Loose fitting clothing or singlets are a great help if you have hurt your shoulder or back and shorts if you’ve hurt your hip, knee or ankle. Don’t panic if you forget as we have clothing you can borrow.
If you have any paperwork or a referral from your GP, surgeon or previous therapist this is always a great help. This can save time and allow us to maximise the time we can put into getting you back on track.
No, you don’t need a referral to see a Physiotherapist. You are able to fill out ACC forms directly at Edge Physio. If we think it is appropriate we are able to refer you on for x-rays or ultrasound scans. As Physiotherapists we can also refer you to see Specialists or Surgeons should the need arise.
Edge Physio is a registered treatment provider with ACC. If your injury is the result of an ‘external force’ and is accepted by ACC you will be covered.
ACC will cover the majority of your treatment costs however there is a small surcharge for each treatment (see Fees). At times there may be small addition costs for any equipment/strapping we think will help you with your rehabilitation.
A typical treatment at Edge Physio will take 30 minutes. To ensure we are able to maximise your treatment time and recovery please try and turn up 10 minutes before your initial appointment to fill out paperwork and 5 minutes prior to your follow up appointment time. Unfortunately we are human at Edge Physio and sometimes we are running a little bit late. We will do our best to stay on time as we know how important your time is to you.
If ACC declines your injury claim or you cannot attribute your injury to an ‘external force’ then there will be a private treatment charge (see Fees). You are most certainly still able to be treated at Edge Physio under the private regime.
At Edge Physio we will do our best to see you as soon as we can after your injury. If you have what we would describe as a soft tissue injury e.g. An ankle sprain, a sore knee, a stiff back or a painful shoulder then the RICE acronym is appropriate for the first 72 hours immediately post injury.
R – Rest
I – Ice (20 minutes every 2 hours)
C – Compression
E – Elevation
During the first 72 hours it is also a good idea to avoid HARM
H – Harm
A – Alcohol
R – Running
M - Massage
If you are still not sure what to do then feel free to give us a quick call and we can often give you some advice over the phone to tie you over until your appointment with us.
No. At Edge Physio we love treating injuries from any walk of life. A typical day would see patients aged between 5 and 95 walking through our door. Not to say you aren’t all athletes in your own right but whatever the issue we can help.
This can often depend on your individual insurer and insurance policies. We encourage patients to check with their individual policy providers.
