FAQ & FEES

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What should I expect at my first appointment?

After filling in an ACC and consent form you’ll be introduced to your Physiotherapist. Don’t feel intimidated but we want to get to know you. We will ask you a lot of questions about you and your injury in order to get the big picture of what is going on. From there we will watch you move, test your strength and perform appropriate diagnostic tests to confirm our diagnosis. We will talk you through every step of the process and we hope you will leave feeling better and with a greater understanding of your injury along with a tailored rehabilitation plan to get you back on track.

  • What if I can’t find an appointment online?

If you have attempted to book online and can’t find an appointment time or your preferred Physio is unavailable, please don’t panic. Please feel free to give us a call or flick us a email and request to go on our cancellation list.

  • What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable during your time at Edge Physio. To best diagnose your injury or problem it makes it easier for us as Physiotherapists to able to see the area causing you discomfort. Loose fitting clothing or singlets are a great help if you have hurt your shoulder or back and shorts if you’ve hurt your hip, knee or ankle. Don’t panic if you forget as we have clothing you can borrow.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me to my appointment?

If you have any paperwork or a referral from your GP, surgeon or previous therapist this is always a great help. This can save time and allow us to maximise the time we can put into getting you back on track.

  • Do I need a Doctor’s referral to see a Physiotherapist?

No, you don’t need a referral to see a Physiotherapist. You are able to fill out ACC forms directly at Edge Physio. If we think it is appropriate we are able to refer you on for x-rays or ultrasound scans. As Physiotherapists we can also refer you to see Specialists or Surgeons should the need arise.

  • Will my injury be covered by ACC?

Edge Physio is a registered treatment provider with ACC. If your injury is the result of an ‘external force’ and is accepted by ACC you will be covered.

  • How much will my treatment cost?

ACC will cover the majority of your treatment costs however there is a small surcharge for each treatment (see Fees). At times there may be small addition costs for any equipment/strapping we think will help you with your rehabilitation.

  • How long will my treatment take?

A typical treatment at Edge Physio will take 30 minutes. To ensure we are able to maximise your treatment time and recovery please try and turn up 10 minutes before your initial appointment to fill out paperwork and 5 minutes prior to your follow up appointment time. Unfortunately we are human at Edge Physio and sometimes we are running a little bit late. We will do our best to stay on time as we know how important your time is to you.

  • What if ACC doesn’t cover my injury?

If ACC declines your injury claim or you cannot attribute your injury to an ‘external force’ then there will be a private treatment charge (see Fees). You are most certainly still able to be treated at Edge Physio under the private regime.

  • What should I do before I see a Physiotherapist if I am injured?

At Edge Physio we will do our best to see you as soon as we can after your injury. If you have what we would describe as a soft tissue injury e.g. An ankle sprain, a sore knee, a stiff back or a painful shoulder then the RICE acronym is appropriate for the first 72 hours immediately post injury.

    R – Rest

    I – Ice (20 minutes every 2 hours)

    C – Compression

    E – Elevation

During the first 72 hours it is also a good idea to avoid HARM

    H – Heat

    A – Alcohol

    R – Running

    M - Massage

If you are still not sure what to do then feel free to give us a quick call and we can often give you some advice over the phone to tie you over until your appointment with us.

  • Do I need to have a sports injury to see a Physiotherapist?

No. At Edge Physio we love treating injuries from any walk of life. A typical day would see patients aged between 5 and 95 walking through our door. Not to say you aren’t all athletes in your own right but whatever the issue we can help.

  • Will my medical insurance cover the cost of my treatment?

This can often depend on your individual insurer and insurance policies. We encourage patients to check with their individual policy providers. If you are insured with Southern Cross and your coverage includes Physiotherapy services, we are able to charge them directly for you. All we need is your Southern Cross membership number.

  • Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?

Yes. We have parking available at the rear of the building and our clinic can be accessed by ramp. All facilities at Edge Physio are wheelchair accessible.

  • Can I buy strapping tape, braces and other rehabilitation equipment?

Yes, we have a wide range of strapping tape, supportive braces and rehabilitation equipment available to purchase. If you need a specific item please ask and we will source and order it for you as soon as possible.

  • What if I need to see a specialist or get further scans?

Not a problem, we have a close relationship with Orthopaedic surgeons both locally and around the country and are able to refer you to them should the need arise. As Physiotherapists we are able to refer you locally for x-rays and ultrasound scans if we think it will assist in diagnosing your injury and getting you back on track.

  • Can I just get a strapping for an upcoming training/match?

Absolutely, just contact our front desk on 03 578 8310 and let them know this is what you require. There will be a small charge for materials in this case (see Fees).
